    An update from Ms Bush

It has been another busy week at Valley Primary Academy.

Children in Year 5 and 6 particularly enjoyed their visit to our local library on Friday as a part of our whole school push on Reading this half term. We value the importance of Reading at Valley and as Headteacher I would like to take this opportunity to remind you how important it is that you are listening to your children read regularly at home.

    Thankyou for your continuing support.

    Ms Bush

    Year Group News

    Reception

This week Reception have been looking at funny bones. We had a fab time at drawing club, where we drew the skeletons. We also had our first forest school sessions. Remember to bring in your wellies next week on Tuesday!

    Year 1

This week we have been super busy learning about why we have night and day, as well as the seasons and the weather we might experience during each. In Geography we have started to learn about the position of the continents and in History how we have changed in our lives so far. Later on this term, we will be talking about how the area we live in has changed since our grandparents were little, so if you have a grandparent who may be willing to come visit us, please contact Ms Freezer. As usual, we are continuing to try our best and look forward to sharing more with you soon!

    Year 2

This week in maths we have been looking at place value and ordering numbers to 100. In English we have been writing a character description about Grandad from the text 'Grandad's Island'. In art we looked at the illustrator Beth Krommes and used her waves pattern to design our own.

    Year 3

We have had a very busy week again in Year 3! The children have really enjoyed continuing with their topic of the Stone Age and as well as learning more about rocks in their Science lessons. Year 3 are really looking forward to experimenting with different materials in Design Technology. They have also learnt all about commitment in RE and about the different ways that Christians show commitment in their religion. The children enjoyed thinking about how we show commitment in our everyday lives, such as coming to school.

    Year 4

Children have been working extremely hard over the last couple of weeks, settling into Year 4. We have been exploring a book called 'The Queen's Nose' in reading, which the children have really enjoyed. In English, we have been thinking about how to stay safe online, and how we can use persuasive language to make a point to the reader. In maths, we have continued to look at place value, most recently rounding 4-digit numbers to 10, 100 and 1,000. In history, we have been exploring the Anglo-Saxons, where they came from and their reasons for coming to Britain. In Art, the children have been really creative in developing still life drawings, using a range of pencils, wax crayons and watercolor paints. And in PE, children have been developing their football/cricket skills.

    Year 5

This week we have had so much fun in science, art and karate! We have been exploring properties of materials in science, where we then investigated what mixtures and solutions were. This week in art, the class have produced some beautiful pieces of abstract art, based on our core text Shackleton's Journey. We have enjoyed writing our stories from Ancient Greece/Ancient Egypt this week as well. Finally, we have had a lovely trip to the library today and we're looking forward to our parent cafe next week!

    Year 6

This week we have completed our written autobiographies, to go with our painted self-portraits. We've had fun in PSHE building team bridges, and learned some foreign languages on European Day of Languages. We were very proud of Guste, Nadia, Akmeja and Queen who told us all about their own countries, languages and cultures! We have learned how exercise affects our heart rate, with lots of homeworks completed on an exercise class, we have found out about tectonic plates of the globe and the natural disasters that can result from their movements. In computing, we've done lots of practical tasks involving the Google classroom, so all children should now be able to access and upload work from home. We have also learned about how the internet works, whole discussing internet safety.

    Attendance Update

This week's whole school attendance 95.6%

    Leave in Term Time

As a school, we are no longer allowed to authorise any requests for children to be taken out of school for a holiday during term time.

Requests for leave can only be granted in exceptional circumstances, and a holiday would not be considered exceptional. Requests for leave must also be made to the school in advance. To do this please come into the school office to complete the necessary Leave in Term Time application.

Parents may receive a penalty notice if their child is absent from school without permission.

We appreciate the challenges that some parents face when booking holidays, particularly during the school holidays. However, regular attendance at school is vital in helping children and young people to achieve their full potential and get the best possible start in life.
