    An update from Ms Bush

    Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back after the Xmas break. It has been a really positive start to the term, despite the chilly mornings that we have faced. However the school is very much warm and friendly - it has been lovely to see the children keen to settle back into routines.

A little reminder that an early bedtime on Sunday night for the children makes for a much easier Monday morning!

    Thankyou for your continuing support.

    Ms Bush

    Snacks and Water bottles

    • Children may bring in water or still flavoured water to drink in school. No Squash please.
    • KS2 are also able to bring in a healthy snack, fruit or veg for breaktime. KS1 have a snack provided to them so do not need to bring anything in.
    • Please remember that children are not permitted to bring in glass water bottles into school as these pose a health and safety risk.
    • We are a healthy eating school - please also keep this in mind when packing your child's lunchbox.

    Year Group Update

Reception - The class has settled back into school well. We have enjoyed reading the three little pigs story and creating our own houses made of straw, wood and bricks. We even looked at different materials such as metal and plastic.

Year 1 - Sharman Class have started the Spring Term brilliantly, particularly by volunteering at the Marlpit Community Garden. We all enjoyed working alongside the volunteers and cleared our own patch ready for growing flowers and different fruits and vegetables. We cannot wait to visit each Tuesday and get busy in the fresh air with our local community! Please let us know if you would like to come along too.

Year 2 - The class have really enjoyed beginning their dance lessons in PE. They pretended to be busy bees in a garden, flying between flowers and collecting nectar.

In Science we have begun learning about the different properties of materials and in Art the children have created some brilliant artwork by printing with potatoes - Well done Year 2!

Year 3 - We have had a really fun first week back at Valley! We have experimented in our writing and challenged ourselves to use expanded noun phrases. Miss Curry was very impressed with the results. In PE, we practised our hockey skills, we had loads of fun playing games too! We are excited for our art lesson tomorrow and, of course, having a restful weekend. What a great start to 2024!

Year 4 - The class have had a really good start to the Spring term. We are enjoying reading our core text, 'The Girl Who Stole An Elephant'. We have also now moved our PE slot to a Friday so that we can participate in very exciting karate sessions led by a specialist instructor.

Year 5 - The class has started a number of new topics this term including Forces in science and the Maya Civilisation in history. They enjoyed their first session swimming, developing their swimming skills to meet the Government target of being able to swim 25m before they leave in Year 6! Planning has started for a class trip before the Easter break.

Year 6 - The class have been working really hard on homework and after school clubs to get themselves High School ready. They are earning stickers towards a free trip. Ms Wynter has enjoyed teaching and learning some dance in PE lessons.

Starship - The class have had a fantastic first full week back! We have introduced our science and geography topics, as well as having the music man in to teach us about chords. Everyone really enjoyed making caterpillars out of paper during art and we have explored features of information texts, ready to start planning them next week. Well done Starship!

    Attendance Update

This week's whole school attendance 95%

    Leave in Term Time

As a school, we are no longer allowed to authorise any requests for children to be taken out of school for a holiday during term time.

Requests for leave can only be granted in exceptional circumstances, and a holiday would not be considered exceptional. Requests for leave must also be made to the school in advance. To do this please come into the school office to complete the necessary Leave in Term Time application.

Parents may receive a penalty notice if their child is absent from school without permission. We appreciate the challenges that some parents face when booking holidays, particularly during the school holidays. However, regular attendance at school is vital in helping children and young people to achieve their full potential and get the best possible start in life.

    Remember that every day counts!
