    Starship

Starship has started a new science topic learning about properties of different materials. In English we have begun a new unit learning about different scripts. The children have enjoyed the Wish Granter animation posted on Google Classroom, and will be adding their own script to the animation. In art we are developing our sewing skills and looking forward to making some Christmas decorations later this term.

    Reception

This week, Reception have been looking at firework night and halloween. We learnt a lot about why we celebrate firework night. We are going to do some junk modelling next week so if you have any spare cardboard boxes, cereal boxes etc, please bring them in!

    Year 1

What a busy first week back we've had! We have enjoyed beginning our new story, 'The Storm Whale' in our Reading lessons and learning how to subtract in Maths. Ms Freezer was once again impressed by our wonderful learning in Art where we have started to learn about the primary colours, as well as the 'dip, dip, dab' technique for painting and the parts of a paintbrush. We are ready and raring to go for this term! Please note our PE days have changed to Monday and Thursday.

    Year 2

This week Year 2 enjoyed a visit to Strangers Hall where they went back in time to London, 1666. They began by participating in a drama session, acting out the key events leading up to and after the Great Fire of London started. They then spent time looking around different rooms in the house to decide how fire safe they were, looking at the materials furniture and wall coverings were made from to see if they were flammable or not. We all enjoyed this trip and especially the bus journey there and back!

    Year 3

Year 3 have had a very busy first week back! The children have been working hard in practising their addition and subtraction and Mathematics, this has been tough but we have persevered! They have also been started writing their non-chronological reports in English, we have seen some fantastic pieces so far! Y3 had a wonderful art lesson yesterday where they printed using ink for the first time - the results were amazing. To finish off a busy week, we have our first lesson of karate in the afternoon. Have a wonderful weekend!

    Year 4

In Year 4 we began looking at Poetry in English and the different writing tools authors use. We are concluding our work on addition and subtraction in maths, in which most children are now secure using the formal written method. The children have loved starting their Tuesday swimming lessons, they had their first lesson this week and all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

    Year 5

This week Year 5 have returned to school eager to learn! In computing, we have investigated how search engines worked, as well as using specific vocabulary to refine our searches. The class have also enjoyed their first basketball lesson in PE and they have written some fantastic poetry this week, which Miss Mills is very proud of!

    Year 6

This week Year 6 were excited to begin our new class reading book - The Pig-Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. We have also had a fantastic time outside for our first Bushcraft lesson of the year. We have also been finding out about different religious beliefs in our RE lesson, that the class have found really interesting.

    Attendance Update

This week's whole school attendance 98.6%

    Leave in Term Time

As a school, we are no longer allowed to authorise any requests for children to be taken out of school for a holiday during term time.

Requests for leave can only be granted in exceptional circumstances, and a holiday would not be considered exceptional. Requests for leave must also be made to the school in advance. To do this please come into the school office to complete the necessary Leave in Term Time application.

Parents may receive a penalty notice if their child is absent from school without permission.

We appreciate the challenges that some parents face when booking holidays, particularly during the school holidays. However, regular attendance at school is vital in helping children and young people to achieve their full potential and get the best possible start in life.
